Maungaturoto, known as the heart of the Kaipara district is located close to the Otamatea River, an estuarial arm of the Kaipara Harbour. It is 25 km north of Wellsford and 45 Km south of Whangarei and situated on the Twin Coast Discovery Highway (SH12). 

Maungaturoto (translated from Maori as mountain standing up in lagoons) was established in 1863 under the Albertland Settlement Scheme. With the spectacular mountain Pukereinga set in dairy farming country as a backdrop, this vibrant country town offers great shopping, the Piroa Falls, and fishing at the bays of Batley and Whakapirau.
