About The Vet Centre

The Vet Centre, established in the early 1960s, is a vet club registered as Otamatea Vet Club Inc. Running as an incorporated society, we were established by a group of farmers who got together and formed a club. They paid an annual membership fee and then employed veterinarians.

The Otamatea Vet Club started with one vet working out of a house at Maungaturoto and over the ensuing years grew to include the Waipu and Ruawai areas. More recently the Mangawhai practice was purchased. This expansion has been achieved by a good team of vets and staff, overseen by a dedicated board of directors and with continued support from our customers. A few years ago we decided to change our trading name to “The Vet Centre”.

Present Day

Still operating as the Otamatea Vet Club and trading as The Vet Centre Inc, we remain a well-supported club, overseen by our executive committee who meet monthly to discuss and set policy.

An annual general meeting is held to discuss financial reports, review the year that has passed and discuss plans for the year ahead. When retiring due to 3 year rotation, executive committee members are either re-elected or replaced by newly elected candidates. Candidates are nominated by the club members.

Because we are an incorporated society, all profits are either returned to the business or passed on to the members by way of reduced fees. The GM reports to the executive committee and is responsible for the day to day running of the Vet Centre. The GM is supported by a branch manager in each clinic, veterinarians, administration middle management, and support staff.

Our practice provides a 24 hour emergency service for both production and companion animals for urgent needs that occur outside of normal business hours. The contact phone numbers for the after hours emergency service are the same as those for business hours, with calls being received by our after hours support staff who liaise with on call veterinarians.

Our clinics are well stocked for production and companion animal health needs and pet care products and our staff are trained to assist you with product choices and health advice.

Our vets are always happy to give advice on products or problems with your animals, or give individual advice on animal health or production problems on your farm.

A networked computer system means that queries relating to your records can be answered at any of our clinics.
